Homeworkers are people who work at home due to family or other commitments. They are often poorly paid and represent a hidden sector of our economy. According to the Government Department for Business, more than 70,000 people may be working at home at under the minimum wage. For more, see this BBC report
The RECONSTYLE movement stands with exploited homeworkers hidden in our own community. We want to see them come out from the shadows and have ongoing, properly paid work to support their families. We will work with them to locally produce our clothing - for them, for us, for our communities and for our environment. So the challenge is to find ways to produce clothing which uses the skills that the homeworkers have and can be sold at a value that enables them to be properly paid.
This is our challenge. If you want to join the RECONSTYLE movement and work with British homeworkers to produce the most sustainable British fashion, get in touch!
